SUMMARY:Ames Water Treatment Plant Tour – May 25, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this month’s Lunch & Learn at the Ames Water Treatment Plant! The event will consist of lunch and then a tour of the facility. During the tour, we will learn about the history of the water plant. Ames originally had an older plant near Bandshell park but relocated to 13th St. and we will learn about the process that they went through to make that possible. Our tour guide is the Superintendent of the plant and is happy to answer any technical questions of water quality during the tour. After lunch, we will be guided through the treatment room where the solids contact units and filters are and we will be able to see the aerators from inside the plant, or go outside to see them if the weather is nice. These are the main steps in the water treatment process as they use a sand filter system to treat our water. We may also be able to go into the operating room and speak to an operator and see the testing equipment that they use to check the quality of our water 24/7.\nOur contact at the water plant recommends bringing a light jacket like a windbreaker for anyone that tends to get chilly at work, even if it is a nice day. The treatment room is always quite cold since the water comes from underground. A long sleeve shirt would also suffice.\nPlease note the start time of 11:45 am. Since we will be eating before the tour, if you are able to arrive earlier than our usual 12:00 pm start time, that may be helpful. If you cannot arrive until noon, that is okay as well.\nPlease be sure to register so that we can order lunch for you and include you on the roster for the tour. We will need our IDs to check in. We hope to see you there!\n\n\nEvent Registration\n\nPlease login to your account to register as a FUEL member\n\n\n \n \n \n Username or E-mail\n \n \n \n \n \n Password\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Remember Me\n \n       \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n     \n \n \n Forgot Password \n \n\n \n \n \n\nNon-Member Registration\n\n\n
